FAQ & AFTERCARE

TATTOO AFTERCARE

Always wash your hands before touching your new tattoo while it's healing.

Take the cling film off (you may have some fluid build up, this is normal).

With clean hands, gently wash your tattoo using a non-perfumed, non-antibacterial some. Simple soap or baby soap are ideal. Thoroughly rince all of the soap off.

Gently pat the area dry using paper towel, not fabric towel or tissues as they can leave fibres behind.

Once the area is clean and dry apply a very thin layer of the aftercare cream/gel. Try to get even coverage. Only use aftercare products that are suggested or approved by us as inappropriate creams can cause damage to the tattoo. Try and

Repeat this proces three times a day for the first few days and reduce as you feel necessary. After a week your tattoo should be settled and not need the full aftercare procedure.

Once the tattoo has settled it may have a slight waxy look, at this point it is good to switch to a gentle moisturiser as it will help the skin return to a normal texture.

Your fresh tattoo will need to be kept out of the sun and uv light for 6-8 weeks to allow it to build up its natural uv protection. Until that happens your tattoo will be extra sensitive to uv light and it may sunburn much faster.

HELPFUL TIPS

Don't use too much aftercare ointment. Use enough to soak into the tattoo. If it's left wet it can draw the ink out of the skin and cause some pigment loss. Less is more!

When in a shower or bath try to make the tattoo the last area to get wet and the first to be dried off once you are out.

Avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms until the tattoo has settled (usually after the first week).

If your tattoo gets itchy, you can gently scratch around the area, or gently slap the tattoo to promote blood flow to the area. If it persists you can go through the aftercare, but try to only do this routine three times a day.

PIERCING AFTERCARE

Always wash your hands before touching your new piercing.

Use saline solution to clean the piercing.

Dip a cotton bud into the saline solution and gently clean around the jewellery and piercing to remove any debris.

Do not 'double dip' the cotton bud into the saline solution.

Gently dry the area around the piercing using paper towel.

Do not spin or move the jewellery as you clean it.

Treat your new piercing like an open wound. Clean it, dry it and leave it alone.

Fresh clean cotton buds or cotton pads

HELPFUL TIPS

To make your own saline solution add a pinch of sea salt to half a pint of fresh boiled water. Allow this to cool before using on your new piercing.

Avoid submerging your new piercing in water until it is fully healed, therefore take showers rather than baths and avoid swimming in pools or lochs/the sea etc...

Avoid using any harsh chemicals on the piercing.

Make sure you don't get fake tan, beauty products, hair spray or strong fragrance on your new piercing.

Avoid spicy food if you are healing an oral piercing.

Avoid sun beds for at least 2 weeks, ideally cover the piercing when using them after 2 weeks.
