FAQ & AFTERCARE

TATTOO AFTERCARE

Always wash your hands before touching your new tattoo while it's healing.

Take the cling film off (you may have some fluid build up, this is normal).

With clean hands, gently wash your tattoo using a non-perfumed, non-antibacterial some. Simple soap or baby soap are ideal. Thoroughly rince all of the soap off.

Gently pat the area dry using paper towel, not fabric towel or tissues as they can leave fibres behind.

Once the area is clean and dry apply a very thin layer of the aftercare cream/gel. Try to get even coverage. Only use aftercare products that are suggested or approved by us as inappropriate creams can cause damage to the tattoo. Try and

Repeat this proces three times a day for the first few days and reduce as you feel necessary. After a week your tattoo should be settled and not need the full aftercare procedure.

Once the tattoo has settled it may have a slight waxy look, at this point it is good to switch to a gentle moisturiser as it will help the skin return to a normal texture.

Your fresh tattoo will need to be kept out of the sun and uv light for 6-8 weeks to allow it to build up its natural uv protection. Until that happens your tattoo will be extra sensitive to uv light and it may sunburn much faster.

HELPFUL TIPS

Don't use too much aftercare ointment. Use enough to soak into the tattoo. If it's left wet it can draw the ink out of the skin and cause some pigment loss. Less is more!

When in a shower or bath try to make the tattoo the last area to get wet and the first to be dried off once you are out.

Avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms until the tattoo has settled (usually after the first week).

If your tattoo gets itchy, you can gently scratch around the area, or gently slap the tattoo to promote blood flow to the area. If it persists you can go through the aftercare, but try to only do this routine three times a day.

PIERCING AFTERCARE

Always wash your hands before touching your new piercing.

Use saline solution to clean the piercing.

Dip a cotton bud into the saline solution and gently clean around the jewellery and piercing to remove any debris.

Do not 'double dip' the cotton bud into the saline solution.

Gently dry the area around the piercing using paper towel.

Do not spin or move the jewellery as you clean it.

Treat your new piercing like an open wound. Clean it, dry it and leave it alone.

Fresh clean cotton buds or cotton pads

HELPFUL TIPS

To make your own saline solution add a pinch of sea salt to half a pint of fresh boiled water. Allow this to cool before using on your new piercing.

Avoid submerging your new piercing in water until it is fully healed, therefore take showers rather than baths and avoid swimming in pools or lochs/the sea etc...

Avoid using any harsh chemicals on the piercing.

Make sure you don't get fake tan, beauty products, hair spray or strong fragrance on your new piercing.

Avoid spicy food if you are healing an oral piercing.

Avoid sun beds for at least 2 weeks, ideally cover the piercing when using them after 2 weeks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
For tattoos we will take walk-in appointments when we are able to, although it is very unlikely that we will have the time for a walk-in so we highly recommend booking an appointment in advance. For piercings you do not need an appointment, we are walk-in only.
  • HOW DO I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
You can make an appointment in the studio or via email, Facebook message or Instagram message. We'll need to know what you want to get done, size (preferably in inches) and body placement. No appointment needed for piercings as for these we are walk-in only.
  • DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT FOR A TATTOO?
Yes, you do need to pay a deposit. I'm afraid we are not able to book you in until a deposit has been paid, there are no exceptions to this. We can take deposit in cash at the studio or via bank transfer.
  • WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
For tattoos we can take the deposit payment by cash in the studio or by bank transfer. We ask for the remainder of the money to be paid in cash in the studio once your appointment is finished. For piercings cash is preferred, card payment can occasionally be taken.
  • WHAT AGE DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO?
You must be 18+ to get a tattoo. The age restriction is set out by the tattooing of minors act 1969 which states that it is illegal to tattoo a person under 18 years of age. There are absolutely no exceptions to this.

We pierce from age 16+ (18+ for certain piercings).

  • WHAT PREPERATION DO I NEED TO DO FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
This can really vary depending on the tattoo you're getting although there are some things are recommended for all tattoos. Make sure that you wear comfortable clothing, that you don't mind getting ink splatters on and that can easily move away from the area getting tattooed. If you'd like more privicy whilst getting tattooed please let us know in advance. Make sure you've eaten before your appointment and bring snacks and drinks with you. We can provide you with water although you might want a sugary drink. For piercings personal hygiene covers all the preparation you need: make sure the area getting pierced/changed is clean. If you have long hair, and want your ears pierced, it's a good idea to bring a hair bobble or clips to keep your hair away from your ears.
  • HOW MUCH IS A TATTOO?
Each tattoo is priced individually, there is no one price that covers all. Once we know what design you'd like, the size you're after and body placement we will be able to tell you a price. Some tattoos are ongoing work and will be priced per sitting, not a total price for the full piece.
  • DO I NEED TO GIVE NOTICE TO CANCEL OR MOVE AN APPOINTMENT?
We require at least 48 hours to cancel or move an appointment, otherwise I'm afraid you will lose your deposit.
  • CAN YOU COVER UP MY OLD TATTOO?
If you're looking for a cover up we will book a consultation for you with one of our artists. They will be able to talk to you about what options are available. It really depends on the tattoo that you're looking to have covered, the artist may sometimes suggest some sessions of laser removal before a cover up would be possible. Consultations are free of charge.
  • DO YOU OFFER TOUCH-UPS ON TATTOOS?
We offer free touch-ups on most tattoos done in our studio, only if one is needed. You must contact us regarding this within three months of getting the tattoo and you must show us the area of the tattoo that needs touched-up. We do not offer free touch-ups on hand or finger tattoos or if you contact us after three months.

There is an NCP car park directly above the studio (accessed from Montrose Street) which can be quite pricey although is cheaper if booked in advance. We are also only a 5 - 10min walk from Ingram Street car park and King Street car park.
